Cycling in South Wales by the Coast

National cycle network – route 88

The National Cycle Network (NCN88) route 88 cycleway is a mixture of on and off road routes throughout south Wales. Some of the route is suitable for meandering use whereas other stretches of it are more suitable for experienced road cyclists.

The Vale’s Glamorgan Heritage Coast is well known to ramblers, with its dramatic Triassic, Liassic cliffs and expansive beaches, and this is also an area of natural beauty that is easily accessible on two wheels, with a relatively flat, fast cycle route hugging the coastline from Cardiff Bay to Bridgend.

Here over 90 million years of history have produced stories of the English Civil War, legends of piracy on the Bristol Channel, and even tales of ghosts in certain Vale taverns.
